My 3-Step Process for Living a Brave and Meaningful Life
“Everything you want is on the other side of fear.”
You’ve probably seen that quote a time or two, right? Here’s the issue though, fear doesn’t always disguise itself as bad guys and monsters. More often than not and, as much as we hate to admit it, those “everything we want” dreams lie just on the other side of more intangible fears like doubt, failure, making a mistake, and worry about our future. In fact, let me drop this truth bomb on you.
Fear and the anxiety that it produces can and will happily rob us of the very thing we want most – a full, meaningful life.
So how do we overcome it? Do we wear shirts that say, “Fearless” even though we feel anything but? Do we mouth off to our boss with false bravado? Do we quit the stable job that pays our bills for a life of insecurity in the name of freedom?
The answer is none of those things.
If fear is the enemy, bravery is the savior. Bravery, not fearlessness, in the face of doubt, insecurity, failure, and worry is the #1 way to actually attain the life of purpose and meaning you desire.
But how do we make that happen? What does it look like? How do we actually practice bravery without fighting actual battles, marching in rallies, or quitting our jobs?

HOW TO APPLY THESE 3 STEPS IN YOUR LIFE THIS WEEK!
STEP 1: CULTIVATING A BRAVE SPIRIT
- Actually spend some time doing personal development work to get clarity on what you want in life, your desires, and who YOU want to be. I know, I know you’re busy, but you won’t know who you are unless you do the work. Personally, I love to journal in the mornings! If you haven’t already, check out my 101+ prompts to get yourself started.
STEP 2: BRAVERY + OTHERS
- This one is simple. My challenge for this phase is to suggest vs. ask for suggestions. Whether it’s where to go for lunch, what song to listen to, or which option is best, be brave and offer your opinion just once this week!
STEP 3: LIVING A BRAVE LIFE
- You’re going to think I’m crazy, but I want you to strike up an actual conversation with someone working at a grocery store, Starbucks, or any other establishment you frequent regularly. This conversation has to go beyond more than, “Hi, how are you?”. Aim to get their name, where they’re from, or how their week has been. Be brave!
